I came in with a box of papers I'd been avoiding for about three years. By the end of the session I had a proper labelled folder and actually knew what was in it. The explanation of what each document type means was exactly what I needed — no jargon, just plain sense.

The information series was worth doing at a measured pace. Catherine made each session clear without rushing through the material, and the printed notes meant I could go back and re-read anything I wasn't sure about. I went in not knowing quite what different pension documents were for, and left with a proper working understanding.

We did the Household Archive Programme because our paperwork had accumulated from three different countries and neither of us really knew where anything was. It took a few sessions, but the result is a filing system that actually makes sense to both of us. The family briefing at the end was a thoughtful touch.

I was a bit unsure what to expect, but the session was entirely without pressure. James explained everything clearly and let me set the pace. The printed organiser is something I keep on the shelf and actually use, which says a lot. Good value for what it saves in confusion later.

Having paperwork coming from Belgium and Thailand at the same time was confusing, to say the least. Nattaporn was very helpful explaining the Thai side of things. The information series gave me a proper framework for thinking about all of it. I feel much calmer about the whole subject now.

I came to the Household Archive Programme mainly for my wife's sake — she worries that if something happened to me, she would not know where to find anything. The written family summary and the briefing session at the end were exactly what we needed. It takes a bit of time but the outcome is genuinely useful.

A closer look at how it worked
Susan & Brian Cooper
British couple, retired · Hua Hin
The situation
Brian and Susan had accumulated pension-related correspondence from the UK over fifteen years but had never organised it. Statements, letters, and forms were in several different folders without a clear structure, and they were not sure which documents were still relevant.
What we did
We completed the Household Archive Programme over five sessions, going through all documents together, explaining what each type represented, and creating a labelled structure divided by document category and year. The written summary described each section so both of them could navigate it independently.
The outcome
Their archive now fits into one clearly labelled cabinet. Both feel confident identifying any document if they need to. Susan noted that knowing where everything was reduced a background level of worry she had carried for years.
"It's the first time both of us feel on top of the paperwork. Simple as that."
Anne-Marie Dufour
French, approaching retirement · Hua Hin
The situation
Anne-Marie was around three years from her expected retirement date and wanted to understand the general landscape before any decisions were required. She spoke English well but found official retirement correspondence difficult to follow.
What we did
We ran through the Plain-Language Information Series over three sessions across two weeks. We covered different document types, the general processes associated with French retirement systems as they appear in correspondence, and what official bodies typically send and why.
The outcome
By the third session, Anne-Marie described herself as confident identifying and filing correspondence as it arrived. The glossary has become a useful reference for her. She subsequently arranged to speak with a qualified financial adviser feeling considerably better prepared.
"I knew I needed to understand this before I could make any sense of the advice I'd be given."
